Today I was sitting here thinking what are most forums missing? Well the answer to that is getting personal. What do I mean by personal? We have an introduction section correct? Yes and so does a lot of forums but lets be realistic those introductions are never detailed or tell you much about that user. We all post on it saying Welcome and what not but we never truly get personal.
Now I know there are a lot of people that want to be discreet about their information but I think we need to establish a friendly community. Getting to know everyone makes the sites experience better. I don't mean becoming lifetime friends but just to get to know someone so that you know what they are into, their type of humor, what they do for fun, etc.
Basically after all that my suggestion is to have a personal section/profiles that have a good about you summery where users can ask questions and what not. Maybe also incorporate a blog for users to post writing entry's or personal-ish stuff.
By the way I know there are profiles but no one ever uses them or looks at them. If we use that we need a way to promote using profiles more.
